Chinese Procession - 1811

A magnificent early 19th-century setting. Panoramic wallpaper published around 1820. The manufacture remains unknown to this day. The original decor was composed of 30 strips, approximately 2m40 high. Since continuous paper was invented after this date, this was originally a wallpaper made of cut paper.

The set presents various scenes of life in China, portrayed rather naively, as European society imagined or wished to see it portrayed.

Traditional costumes and activities are typical, including pagodas and very recognizably styled buildings and boats.

As the original decor is in sepia grisaille, the white and blue version is an adaptation from our workshop, to match more modern environments. other declinations are of course possible.
